Growing up, I was always interested in architecture. There was just something about it that was intriguing to me and so I always did what I could to laearn more about it, from pickig up magazines here and there and studying some of my favorite buildings, to taking whatever related classes that I could in high school. And so when I graduated from high school and it was time to decide on where I wanted to go to college and what I wanted to study there and what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I knew that I had some decisions to make. I am a strong believer that student exchange programs are a great idea, and that they should be implemented in more schools. Why do I think that? Well to me it is simple, the more of the world you understand the better person you will become. It is so funny now that I as an adult have been able to travel a few places, the concepts that we have of people and places in other parts of the globe are often so far from what the realities are. Before I traveled to Central America I had an impression of a place that was all dirty, poor people who could not even read or write. I thought the all of the kids would be starving, with big bellies and no shirts. I thought that all of the homes would be made of adobe and the like. Then I went there and saw that my preconceptions were incorrect. I think I would have benefited from being able to see the world from that perspective as a child, or a teenager.
