One of the lesser known facets of the Toyota Corporation is its Toyota Partner Robots. Having created robots that play musical instruments (such as the trumpet or drums), dance and even ferry you places (look up the i-Foot if you’re curious; it’s too awesome for words), it almost makes announcements of “Toyota Yaris for sale” pale in comparison. However, one rival car company’s robot does somewhat eclipse Toyota’s humble offerings. The ASIMO (this standing for Advanced Step in Innovative MObility), made by Honda, was first conceived in 2000. Today it has gone through several different incarnations before arriving at its current one. This model stands at four foot three inches tall and weighs in at 54 kilograms. Essentially looking like a little astronaut with a backpack (this being where its battery is housed), the ASIMO has been the toast of the robotics town for some time now despite somewhat infamously falling down the stairs during an exhibition, smashing its visor in the process.
